Media biography

Rachel Branson’s publishing career began by accident. After graduating in fashion, she took a telesales job in the 1990s and quickly fell in love with the industry, soon launching her own trade directory business. A later decision to study naturopathic medicine sparked the idea that would define her professional life: a magazine dedicated to the world of complementary therapies. This became Wellbeing Magazine, founded on a principle of open access. “I didn't feel that it was my duty to be a gatekeeper,” Rachel explains. “I believe that everybody is entitled freely to information.” She began by hand-delivering 10,000 copies a month around her local community in Tunbridge Wells. Over two decades, the magazine navigated franchising challenges and rising print costs, evolving into a digital-first platform before returning to print in 2024. Today, under parent company Haywood Media, Rachel has built an ecosystem of platforms to support the magazine’s community, including the Spiral App and Storii. Inspired by travel, nature, and a philosophy of constant learning, her vision is to continue sharing stories that help others live healthier, happier lives. Her advice to others reflects her own journey: "You have to stay resilient. You have to look after your own health and wellbeing."
